When it comes to CBD oil, it’s better to choose quality over cost. Cheaper products often lack potency, and are made using low quality ingredients or harmful extraction processes. A bad CBD oil is pretty much pointless, and may even be harmful if toxic additives have been used.
The CBD oil industry is expected to be worth $2.2 billion by 2020, and there are lots of companies who want to get in on the action. For the consumer, this means more choice, but it also means that you have to be more careful about what you buy.
It all starts with knowledge. It’s important to understand what makes a CBD oil worth buying, so that you end up using an oil that genuinely will bring about health and positive change. How do you know what to look for?
The best quality CBD oils are made using organic hemp. The CBD and other cannabinoids are then extracted using a clean method for maximum strength and purity. Reputable CBD companies have their products independently tested in a lab, so that you know that what you are getting is the real deal. When all of this combines, you have yourself a CBD oil worth buying.
Let’s take a look at those factors in closer detail…
Know Your Ingredients
CBD oil is made using hemp. Hemp plants are hyper-accumulators, meaning they rapidly absorb nutrients from the soil. If the hemp is grown in rich, organic soil, then the quality of the CBD oil will be much better.
The flip side is that the hemp will also readily absorb impurities from the soil, so it’s important that the land and the growing process are kept free from pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers, and that the soil contains low quantities of heavy metals.
For maximum health benefits, use full-spectrum oil that is made using the whole hemp plant. This will be much more effective than a CBD isolate. Full spectrum CBD oil contains hundreds of cannabinoids, terpenes and omega fatty acids, which together create an “entourage effect” that is known to enhance the benefits of CBD.
Once extracted, the CBD should be mixed with other natural, preferably organic ingredients to create the final tincture or product. Our favourite tinctures are made using MCT oil from organic coconut, meaning the final product has no harmful additives at all.
Recommendation: Choose organic full spectrum hemp CBD oil, mixed with other natural organic ingredients.
Cheap CBD oils use low cost methods of extraction, which often use toxic petroleum solutions like propane and butane. We definitely DO NOT recommend these products! Petroleum extraction processes make the oils impure, and also damages the composition of the CBD.
There are several alternatives out there. A slow and gentle ethanol based extraction process is generally considered to be the most effective in terms of preserving the cannabinoids and keeping the CBD pure. CO2 extractions are also very pure, though they tend to be complex and expensive.
As both of these extraction methods cost the company more, you can expect to see this reflected in the price, but it’s well worth paying more to know that your CBD is pure and uncontaminated.
Recommendation: Make sure your CBD oil has been made using an ethanol or CO2 extraction process for maximum purity and strength.
How do you actually know that your CBD oil is made using high quality ingredients? How do you verify its purity and strength?
The answer is third-party scientific testing.
Top quality CBD oils are independently tested to make sure that they have a consistently high level of naturally-occurring CBD. Tests also make sure THC levels are under the legal limit, so that there’s no chance of getting high! Quality products will state the precise measurement of CBD levels on the label.
CBD oil should also be tested for heavy metals, mold, mildew, fungus and bacteria. Manufacturers who care about their products will make these lab results available to the public, whether in the packaging or on their website.
Recommendation: Choose CBD oils that have been independently reviewed and lab-tested for potency and purity.
Over time, companies who provide the best quality products will prevail. If a CBD company is well-established and has a good reputation, then this is likely due to their amazing products and dedication to customer service.
We only work with a small handful of suppliers who have passed our five-point quality test. That way, we know who we can trust and so do you. Look for the companies with the best reputation, and you will be rewarded with top of the range CBD oil.
Recommendation: Look for companies who have been around for a while, who have favorable reviews for their product and customer service.
The final factor to consider when buying CBD oil is the cost, but really a cheap product should set off alarm bells in your mind. If you are thinking about buying cheap CBD oil, stop and think for a moment. Is it organic? Is it full spectrum? What is the potency? Has it been cleanly extracted? Can all of this be validated with recent lab-test results?
The best quality CBD oil has to be grown without using chemicals, extracted with absolute care, and validated using science. All of this costs money. The best CBD oil is usually more expensive, but, if you find the right one, it is well worth it for the quality.
Recommendation: Always choose quality over cost!
